Table Tennis Autumn 2021 Week 3

Round 3 of The Mount Gambier Table Tennis Autumn 2021 Season played out this week with some tight enthralling contests.

A-Grade’s first match-up saw Assassins prevail over Tigers in the match of the round, both teams evenly matched. Assassins player Leigh Barry opened up with a convincing win over his Tigers adversary Robin Pellen before Greg Megaw exacted revenge for Tigers with an equally dominant display to dispatch of Kevin Patzel. A four-rubber run of victories proved to be the difference for Assassins, Tigers making up ground at the back end of the match to salvage a close 6-5 result. Patzel’s 5-game victory over Pellen was the highlight of the match. In the second of the a-Grade encounters, Moore Or Less proved to be too strong for Anything IDK, Ben Newman and Scott Davies the difference with faultless displays. Chandler Jantosh fought bravely for Anything IDK however he was unable to save his team from going down 7 rubbers to 4.

B1 saw Colossal Gnomes continue their winning ways led by David Harris-Jones who recorded a clean sheet to help his team to a comfortable 7-4 victory over Warriors. In the other match, Top Deck barely raised a sweat in accounting for a hapless SRS outfit by 10 rubbers to 1. In B2, an even performance Rockets guided them to a 7-4 victory over ACL who’s only shining light was Corey Jeffrey with clean sheet. Unfortunately, he had little help from his teammates. In the other B2 contest, Hardcore dominated from start to finish to record a comfortable 9-2 demolition of Young And Old.

In the C-grade the Butterflies appear to have changed their name to the Fires, unfortunately it has not changed their fortunes. This time they were no match for a severely undermanned Outcasts outfit. Nat Harris-Jones played a lone hand for the victors, ably supported by substitute player Andrew Schubert, while Nudeen Cook tried to restore some respectability with a brave performance for the Fires. In the end it was the Outcasts who prevailed 7-4. In the final C-Grade encounter of the evening, Rollers were to too strong for the Odd Bunch, also recording a 7-4 victory. Chris Turner recorded a clean sheet for the victors while Tom Horrigan also performed strongly for the Odd Bunch.
